Meet our principals:
John Heath has built a long-standing reputation in the group health insurance field since his start in 1974 and has led the Lone Star Benefits team as President since 1998. His primary focus is on cost-efficient benefit design and funding of group medical, dental, disability and life insurance programs for employer groups. He also takes pride in assisting individual clients with health, life and disability insurance needs. John has a vast array of experience in the employee benefits field, having served hundreds of employer groups through the decades.
With a passion for reading and obtaining knowledge, John has positioned himself as an expert in the areas of group health insurance and health care reform and his clients rely on him as such. In 1990, John earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation. After seeing a growing need for employee benefits guidance to small employers, John earned his Small Group Specialist (SGS) designation in 2011. He is a Charter Member of the Association of Health Insurance Agents, American Society of CLU & ChFC Professional Achievement in Continuing Education Program, a Member of the Society of Financial Services Professionals, International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, and National and Texas Association of Health Underwriters. John holds a business administration degree from Tarleton State University, with a major in marketing.
John and his wife, Carol, are Bosque natives and married in 1971 and now reside in Frisco, Texas. They have one son, two daughters and six grandchildren. John has spent his adult life giving back to his city and his community, having served on the Carrollton City Council, Senior Adult Services Board, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. When he’s not growing his business, John enjoys working outdoors, reading and kicking back at the family ranch in Bosque County.
Heather Bowers joined the Lone Star Benefits team in 2000. She enjoys working with small to mid-size employers located throughout the country on their employee benefit programs. Heather’s devotion to her clients is evident in the service level that she provides to them and her clients frequently praise her for her easy accessibility when they need her. In serving her clients, Heather spends much focus on creative plan design and strategies to help control health care costs. She considers this an essential part of her role as their health insurance agent and strategist.
Heather is also very much an educator in her industry, especially in light of the Affordable Care Act. She enjoys providing all of the insurance knowledge an employer needs to feel confident about the selection of their benefit designs and works to keep her clients in compliance with the ever changing laws as it relates to the insurance industry. As the benefit world continues to become more and more complicated, she finds that by making herself available at this level is something that companies find extremely valuable and rare. By being her clients’ resource and educator, she can keep them apprised of everything they need to know on the benefits side so they can focus on what they do best, growing their business.
Heather was raised in Carrollton, TX and is a graduate of the University of North Texas. She and her husband, Jason, were married in 1999 and have two children. They live in Frisco, the best city in the USA! She truly loves giving back to her community and is currently serving on the Frisco Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is a committee chair for the Frisco Young Professionals. She has also enjoyed being active in the Frisco Rotary Club and serving on the City of Frisco Community Development Corporation Board, the Frisco Family Services Board of Directors, the Frisco Family YMCA Board, the City of Frisco Grand Park Sub-committee and has assisted the Frisco Education Foundation with the Mindbender Academy. Heather is blessed to have most of her family living in the area and enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Many consider her a “gym rat” as she has a passion for fitness. Her absolute favorite place to be though is anywhere warm and tropical and surrounded by the Caribbean!
Heather was honored to be named as one of the Collin County Business Press “40 Under 40” in June 2012 and was also named as one of the Dallas Business Journal “40 Under Forty” in July 2012.
