History

John Heath began his insurance career in 1974 in Waco as a group insurance sales representative with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.  He was promoted to Sales Executive by Blue Cross in 1978 and transferred to Dallas where he worked in sales and service of such notable clients as United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Dallas Independent School District and the A. H. Belo Corporation.  John left Blue Cross in 1981 and opened a third-party administration company to complement his sales and service efforts of larger companies in Texas.  Two years later in 1983 John merged his company into Shelton & Bowles, a highly-respected Dallas insurance firm.

In 1998, John launched Lone Star Benefits in Carrollton, TX as a way to offer clients the group benefits options they needed along with superior, individualized service.  John wanted to build an insurance firm that was not primarily about making sales numbers and meeting quotas but one that actually put the client first in every situation.  This commitment and loyalty to clients has truly become Lone Star Benefit’s standard for doing business.

Shortly after opening its doors, Lone Star Benefits launched a division specializing in accident and special risk insurance coverages.  This division has allowed the firm to be a key player across the country in providing participant accident insurance to schools, churches and non-profit organizations.
